Portrait Postcard Design

For this school project, I created a person portrait illustration for a postcard, designed for an event sale. The goal was to craft an eye-catching and meaningful piece that could resonate with buyers as both an artistic keepsake and a functional postcard.

My Process

Concept Development – I explored different artistic styles and compositions to ensure the portrait was both visually engaging and suited for print.

Illustration & Design – Using digital tools, I carefully crafted the portrait, focusing on expressive details, color harmony, and visual impact.

Typography & Layout – I integrated complementary design elements, ensuring that the final postcard was aesthetically balanced and practical for use.

Print Preparation – I optimized the artwork for high-quality printing, considering paper textures, colors, and resolution.

Challenges & Learnings

Capturing Personality in a Portrait – I focused on translating expression and character into a visually appealing illustration.

Balancing Art & Functionality – Since the portrait was part of a postcard, I had to ensure it worked well within the format and left enough space for text and usability.

Print Considerations – Preparing the print design taught me more about color accuracy, file formats, and optimizing for different printing techniques.

Takeaways

This project enhanced my illustration, layout design, and print production skills, while also reinforcing my ability to create artwork with commercial appeal. It was a rewarding experience that allowed me to merge artistic expression with practical design.
